Relax On Mat
Both therapists arrive together, the mats go down, one start, one finish, gone in ten.
Most couples worry they do not have the space. Almost every Dubai apartment does — a living room with the coffee table pushed aside is plenty.
- About 3 × 3 metres of clear floor — a living room or bedroom both work
- One power socket for a small speaker and a towel warmer
- Building access — tell us the security rules and we handle the rest
- Nothing else. Tables, linens, towels, oils and music all come with us
What couples say
after the room goes quiet.
We booked this for our anniversary and honestly I expected it to feel awkward — two strangers, two tables, our living room. It wasn’t like that at all. They arrived together, moved the coffee table themselves before I could offer, and had everything set up while I was still making tea. Same…
Couple Shiatsu Massage in Dubai
Shiatsu is the quietest technique on our menu and the most methodical. No oil, no undressing, no gliding strokes — two mats on the floor, loose clothing, and an hour of sustained pressure held point by point along the body’s mapped meridian lines, delivered through the therapist’s body weight rather than muscular force.
It suits people who find oil massage slightly indulgent and want something that feels more like treatment than pampering. It also suits anyone who wants a session with nothing to wash off afterwards.
A couple shiatsu massage at home in Dubai means two DHA-licensed therapists arriving together with two mats, both sessions running on the same clock, and each partner’s pressure set to their own tolerance. As with Thai, it needs floor space — and we assess that honestly at booking rather than discovering it at the door.
What Shiatsu Actually Is
Shiatsu developed in Japan from older Chinese traditions, and the vocabulary is entirely distinct from the Western oil-and-table lineage.
Perpendicular held pressure. The defining technique. The therapist applies pressure straight down into a point — with thumb, palm, elbow or knee — and holds it for several seconds before releasing and moving to the next. Nothing glides.
Body weight rather than force. The therapist leans into the point using their own weight rather than pushing with arm strength. This produces steadier, deeper and more controllable pressure, and it’s why a shiatsu practitioner can maintain it without fatigue.
Meridian sequences. Points are worked in order along the tradition’s mapped channels rather than by anatomical region. The session moves systematically through the lines rather than finishing one body part at a time.
Palm pressure and stretching. Broader palm work through the back and limbs, with joint rotations and gentle stretches folded in between pressure sequences.
Rocking and traction. Gentle rhythmic movement and light traction through the limbs and spine, usually closing each sequence.
Working through clothing. The pressure transmits perfectly well through a layer of cotton, which is why the technique never needed oil.
How It Compares to Thai
These two get confused constantly, and the difference is real.
Both are fully clothed, oil-free and floor-based. Both involve pressure and some stretching. Both need similar floor space.
Thai leads with movement. Assisted stretching is the centrepiece — your limbs moved through ranges you couldn’t reach alone — with rhythmic compression between the stretches. The session is dynamic and you finish feeling mobile.
Shiatsu leads with stillness. Pressure is held rather than rhythmic, the stretching is a supporting element rather than the point, and the pacing is slower and quieter throughout. You finish feeling settled rather than loosened.
Which to book: if the problem is stiffness and restricted range, Thai. If the problem is tension, tiredness and a body that won’t switch off, shiatsu. If you want both, book one on each mat — it’s a normal couple booking.
What to Wear and What to Expect
Clothing: loose, soft, comfortable. Cotton or jersey trousers and a t-shirt or long-sleeved top. Avoid jeans, belts, zips, thick seams and anything tight through the hips or shoulders.
No oil, no undressing. Nothing is applied to your skin. You stay fully dressed from start to finish — and there is nothing to shower off afterwards, which is the practical advantage people mention most.
The pressure is held, not moving. The first time this is unfamiliar. A thumb settles into a point and stays there for several seconds. Breathe out as it settles; that’s what lets the point release.
You’ll be moved a little. Arms rotated, legs positioned, the body turned between sequences. Far less than Thai and requiring nothing from you.
It’s quiet work. The rhythm is slow and the room is usually silent. People frequently fall asleep, which is entirely normal.
Tender points are expected. Where tension has accumulated, the held pressure is noticeably more intense. This usually eases within the same sequence.
The Floor Space Question
The one genuine constraint, dealt with at booking rather than at the door.
A shiatsu mat needs roughly two metres by one of clear floor, plus working space around it — the therapist kneels and moves around the mat throughout. Two mats need that twice, side by side, with room between.
Where it works easily: villas, townhouses, older apartments with generous living rooms, and most three-bedroom plans. The villa belt takes two mats without moving furniture.
Where it takes a shift: contemporary two-bedroom apartments, where a coffee table usually needs to move. Ten seconds of rearranging.
Where it genuinely doesn’t fit: compact one-bedroom and studio plans, particularly in the newer towers. We say so plainly rather than arriving and improvising.
What to do: send a photo of the room at booking. If two mats won’t fit, the options are one mat with the other partner on a table, seated shiatsu for both — which works in a chair and needs almost no space — or a different technique. We’ll suggest rather than leave you guessing.
Seated Shiatsu
Worth knowing about, because it solves the space problem entirely.
Seated shiatsu is worked with you upright in a chair, fully clothed, concentrating on the back, shoulders, neck, arms and head. No mat, no floor space, no lying down at all.
It suits compact apartments, anyone who dislikes lying down for an hour, and the visiting-parent third in a rotation booking. Thirty to sixty minutes is the practical range.
Say so at booking and it’s delivered instead of the floor version at the same price.
Who Shiatsu Suits
Anyone who dislikes oil, undressing, or the table format entirely
Tension and tiredness rather than a specific muscular knot
Sleep difficulty — the held-pressure rhythm is genuinely settling
Headache and neck-and-shoulder patterns from desk work
Digestive sluggishness and general stagnation, in the tradition’s terms
Couples who’ve had every oil massage and want something quieter
Anyone who wants a session with nothing to wash off afterwards
Who Should Book Something Else
A specific painful knot. Deep tissue addresses adhesions directly with sustained gliding pressure; shiatsu’s point work is less targeted for that purpose.
Mobility and restricted range. Thai does stretching properly.
Wanting the classic oiled experience. Swedish, Balinese or aromatherapy. Shiatsu is deliberately none of those things.
Pregnancy. Not offered — the positioning, the pressure points and the floor format all rule it out. The prenatal-adapted oil session is the alternative, second trimester onward with a doctor’s approval.
Very limited floor space. Take seated shiatsu instead, or a table technique.
Safety Notes and When to Postpone
Pregnancy: not offered at any stage. Several traditional shiatsu points are specifically avoided in pregnancy and the format itself doesn’t suit. The prenatal-adapted oil session is the alternative.
Osteoporosis or fragile bones: the leaning body-weight pressure isn’t appropriate. Gentle Swedish is the safer booking.
Recent injury, surgery, fractures or joint instability: the area waits until cleared, and the stretching elements are removed.
Herniated discs, sciatica or diagnosed spinal conditions: mention at booking. Some rule out the stretching and traction, and the honest answer may be a gentler oil session.
Blood thinners, clotting disorders or easy bruising: mention at booking; pressure is moderated.
High blood pressure, heart conditions or any managed condition: mention at booking.
Fever, active infection or acute inflammation: postpone.
Recent surgery or implants: the area is avoided.
We are a licensed home massage service, not a medical provider. Shiatsu relieves muscular tension and supports relaxation; it does not treat, diagnose or cure medical conditions, and nothing here is medical advice.
Shiatsu Beside Another Technique
The couple format handles mixed bookings without complication, and the price doesn’t change.
Shiatsu beside Swedish — one on the mat fully clothed, one on the table oiled. The room looks odd for an hour and both get what they wanted.
Shiatsu beside Thai — both clothed, both floor-based, one held and one moving. A genuinely good pairing where the floor takes two mats.
Shiatsu beside deep tissue — the quiet session beside the therapeutic one.
Seated shiatsu beside anything — the option when floor space only allows one mat, or none.
Tell us at booking so the therapists arrive with the right kit — a mat and a table rather than two of either.
Session Lengths
Sixty minutes covers roughly half the meridian sequence properly — either the back and upper body or the legs and lower body. Choose one; it’s the honest use of the hour.
Ninety minutes is the shiatsu standard and the recommendation for a first session. The complete sequence at proper pacing, which the technique depends on.
One hundred and twenty minutes is the full traditional version — nothing abbreviated, every line worked unhurried.
Pricing
One figure covers both partners — both therapists, both mats, all linens and covers, and the travel. Quoted in the message before you book and matched at the door.
No surcharge for shiatsu over any other technique, no per-therapist multiplication, no travel fee by area, and no late-slot premium. Shiatsu on one mat and an oil massage on a table costs the same as two of either.
Coverage Across Dubai
Couple shiatsu runs to every area we serve — the coastal belt, the central districts, the villa belt, the eastern corridor, old Dubai’s quarters, the southern reach and across into Sharjah — with the same practical note as Thai: the villa belt, the older generous-plan apartments and the townhouse communities take two mats most easily, while the newest compact tower plans sometimes don’t. Seated shiatsu fits anywhere.
Arrival windows vary honestly by distance: coastal and central inside about an hour, villa belt and eastern corridor around an hour and a quarter, far southern communities and Sharjah at an hour and a half with half a day’s notice.
Frequently Asked Questions — Couple Shiatsu Massage Dubai
Do we need to undress?
No — shiatsu is worked fully clothed in loose comfortable clothing, with no oil at all. Nothing to shower off afterwards.
How is it different from Thai?
Thai leads with assisted stretching and movement; shiatsu leads with held pressure and stillness. Thai leaves you mobile, shiatsu leaves you settled.
How much floor space do we need?
Roughly two metres by one for each mat, plus room around it. Send a photo at booking and we’ll tell you honestly what fits — and seated shiatsu needs only a chair.
Does it hurt?
Held pressure on a tense point is noticeably intense but shouldn’t be painful. It usually eases within the same sequence, and pressure is adjusted on a word.
Can we do it in a chair instead?
Seated shiatsu is available at the same price — back, shoulders, neck, arms and head, no mat and almost no space needed.
Can one of us have shiatsu and the other an oil massage?
Common and easy — one mat and one table, both starting together, same price. Tell us at booking so the right kit arrives.
Is it safe during pregnancy?
No — shiatsu isn’t offered at any stage. The prenatal-adapted oil session is the alternative, second trimester onward with a doctor’s approval.
Is sixty minutes enough?
For half the sequence worked properly, yes. For the complete meridian route, book ninety — that’s the length shiatsu is built around.
